Our family's Little Free Library was Established in Eastvale, CA on May 20, 2017. We decided to create this little Free Library because we wanted to share books with kids. I felt it was something that could bring joy and a since of community to our cul-de-sac. It did! We were really happy to see that people actually used it!
Our books are family friendly. We do monitor it and if we find any funny business, it's outta there! We want to keep it safe for all ages... especially the kiddos!
On June 9th our Little Free Library Charter sign arrived! It was officially on the map. I was so excited to officially be a part of the Little Free Library community!
Through out the years our Little Free Library has had some updates.
This was our first picture of our Little Free Library.
The first update to our LFL was due to weather. We have learned a lot! The door actually blew off of it! So make it weather proof!
The second update was also due to weather and boredom.
The third update was due to weather as well. We live in a high winds area and it can do a number on the LFLs if they aren't built well.
We have some great memories of maintaining the Little Free Library. One of our greatest memories since we opened ours was when the Ice Cream man came around. The kids wanted Ice cream and we got some for them. He asked what the Little Free Library was and expressed that he wanted to get books for his kid. My girls were quick to offer plenty! They were excited to be able to share books with him and so was I. He had said they weren't able to get him books to read because of the expense. Well, what better than free? This is exactly what the Little Free Library is for! Well done Sharing Shelf, mission done for that day!
We create personalized stickers to put in books to let people know where the book was shared from and to also prevent people from reselling the books. Our goal is to always provide free literacy for the community. Every single book is free.
While we enjoy maintaining our Little Free Library, The Sharing Shelf. There have been some questionable moments, such as a little religious back and forth between two different religions. We had to maintain the amount of religious materials these two groups would drop in The Sharing Shelf. It's not meant to be resource for religious groups to out material the other. The other occurrence was someone dropped books in there that were not family friendly. Not sure if it was a joke or not but sorry, that whole series of books was disposed of quick. Whomp! Whomp! Our goal is to keep our The Sharing Shelf safe for kids and family friendly. We are pretty serious about that!
Once someone dropped a series of Naruto books in The Sharing Shelf and my son was so excited about that one!
A significant part of our story is the inspiration behind The Sharing Shelf. This library is dedicated to our dear friend, Andriea Gray, who first introduced us to the world of Little Free Libraries. Andriea was a truly remarkable person — full of love, kindness, and generosity. She had a gift for making everyone feel seen and appreciated, often sending thoughtful cards or sharing encouraging words just when they were needed most. Her social media posts were always uplifting, filled with profound wisdom and positivity that inspired so many.
Sadly, on June 23, 2017, we lost Andriea, but her spirit lives on with The Sharing Shelf. This Little Free Library is a tribute to her love of reading and her unwavering kindness. Andriea was the type of person who went out of her way to express love and support, always with genuine care. She brought joy to everyone who knew her, and her legacy of compassion continues to inspire us.
Dedicating this library to Andriea is our way of keeping her memory alive in our community. It’s a space where we hope to spread the same warmth and generosity that she shared with us. By giving books, we honor her passion for reading and her remarkable ability to touch lives. We hope The Sharing Shelf brings you joy just as Andriea did for so many.
This LFL was on Corona Valley Ave in Eastvale. It may still be up! We moved in April 2024 but when we moved, we left this version of The Sharing Shelf for the community since people used it so much. It was a wonderful time having this Little Free Library. The new location of our Little Free Library is in Chino, and can be found on the Little Free Library Map or the Little Free Library App!
This one was up quickly after we moved because honestly, we love having one and felt the community needed it! The Little Free Library is a part of our family now. So when we downsized in our living space, we decided to find a way to still incorporate providing free books to the community. I got this little one from Amazon and put it outside our door. When we heard kids getting books and it made us happy. Read on Mighty ones!
Shortly after, we moved we took this little one with us. We couldn't leave it. Hopefully one day they will have one at the front office for people or maybe someone else will put one up.
2024-2025
We are sharing again! It's back in Eastvale. We put it in a little plant box with some succulents there. We are so glad to have this back up. Like I said, it's like family! Search the Little Free Library Map to find one near you!
